[ 03 ]FAQ
What's a typical installation cost per square foot?+

Nationally, professional installation runs $1.50–$5.00/sq ft depending on flooring type and subfloor condition. Carpet is cheapest ($1.50–$2.50), hardwood and tile are pricier ($3.00–$5.00).

Do I always need underlayment?+

For floating floors (laminate, LVP), yes — underlayment provides moisture protection and sound dampening. For nail-down hardwood or glue-down tile, it's often not needed or built into the product.

How much extra should I buy for waste?+

Add 5–10% for straight layouts, 10–15% for diagonal or patterned installations. The tool shows material cost at the area you enter — multiply by your waste factor when purchasing.
